Moving box labels & inventory

Know what’s in every box. Find anything after the move.

Number your boxes, jot down what goes in each one, and print bold, color-coded labels with a QR code that shows the contents on any phone. On move-in night, type “kettle” and Boxdex tells you it’s in box 1. Free, no account, unlimited boxes.

List boxes as you pack

Pick the room, type what’s going in, tap Add. Boxdex numbers each box for you.

Print bold labels

A big number, the room’s color, and a QR code. Movers see where it goes from across the room.

Find anything, fast

Search your whole move, or scan a box to see its contents without cutting the tape.

      Save & share

Your list is saved automatically in this browser only. Download a backup to move it to another device or share it with the person you’re moving with.

      Boxdex Pro $9 once

Avery label sheets, a moving-day tracker, a printable inventory list, CSV import and export, and separate inventories for storage or the garage. One payment, no subscription.

The labeling system that makes unpacking easy

The movers’ trick is simple: give every box a number, a room color, and keep one list of what’s inside. Boxdex does all three for you. Put each room’s color sign on its door at the new place, and anyone carrying a box can match the color without asking you.

      Big numbers

Readable from across a room and on a stacked box. “Box 14” means one box to everyone.

      Room colors & codes

Each room gets a color and a short code like KT or MB, so the label still works if you print in black and white.

      Scan-to-see QR

Any phone camera shows the full contents. No app for you or your helpers.

      Open-first boxes

Mark the boxes with sheets, chargers, coffee and toilet paper so night one isn’t a scavenger hunt.

      Simple, honest pricing

Most moving apps cap free plans at a handful of boxes, then charge every year. Boxdex is free for unlimited boxes. Pro is a one-time $9 for the extras that help on a big move.

      Questions

Where is my box list stored?

Only in this browser, on this device. Boxdex has no server and no database, so nothing you type is uploaded. To use it on another device or share it with the person you’re moving with, use “Download backup” and “Restore backup.” Clearing your browser data erases the list, so keep a backup.

What does the QR code show when someone scans it?

The box number, room, handling marks and contents. That information is stored inside the code itself, not on a server. With “contents page,” the phone opens a page on this site that reads the box details from the link; it needs internet but shows nothing from anyone’s saved list. With “plain text,” the phone shows the text directly, even offline. Because anyone who scans the code can read it, leave valuables off your lists if strangers will handle your boxes.

If I add items after printing, does the QR update?

No. The code holds what the box contained when you printed it. Reprint that one label (choose “Only boxes I haven’t printed yet” after editing, or print one room). Your searchable list in Boxdex is always up to date.

Do I need special labels or a label printer?

No. Free labels print two per page on plain paper; tape them on. Pro adds exact layouts for Avery 5164/8164 and 5163/8163 sheets and 4″×6″ shipping labels.

Can my partner or roommate add boxes too?

There’s no shared online account. One person can keep the list, or you can pass a backup file back and forth. We kept it this way so your inventory never sits on someone else’s server.

Does it work for storage units, the garage or holiday bins?

Yes. Rooms can be anything: “Storage unit, shelf 2,” “Attic,” “Christmas.” Pro lets you keep separate inventories, so your move and your storage unit don’t mix.

      What does Pro cost?

$9, once. No subscription, no renewal, no trial that turns into a charge. Payment is handled by Stripe; Boxdex never sees your card details.

I paid but Pro isn’t showing.

Pro is unlocked in the browser you paid from. If you cleared your browser data or switched devices, email truellobrands@gmail.com with your Stripe receipt and we’ll get it back for you.

      Is this an insurance inventory?

No. Boxdex helps you organize and find things. If you need records for insurance, check with your insurer or moving company about what they require.
